Yaissel Rafael Del Busto Cuni graduated with honours from the Escuela Nacional de Gymnastica Havana, Cuba, and went on to study percussion at the Eva Paulita Concepcion Havana, Cuba and Contemporary Modern and folklorie dance with Classical training at Escuela Nacional del Arte, from which he also gradueted with honors. There he was selected to go and dance in Mexico, with the school's youth dance company "Soneritos".
In March 1998, Rafael was selected to dance with the National Company of Contemporary Dance of Cuba, where he has the opportunity to dance in the opera "Aida" in the Palafenice and Venice, Italy. He then went on to dance at the acclaimed La Maison Fashion House in Havana, Cuba, dancing a fusion of Jazz, Contemporary and Traditional Cuban Dance.
It was at the Maison that he was spotted and invited to join the "Lady Salsa" musical. The show received rave rewiews during it's year and half run that begun at the Edinburgh Festival in April 2000, transferred to the Pleasance Theatre in North London before being transferred due to its popularity to the Talk of London Theatre in the West End, where it was a huge hit during it's year long run.
In September 2001, Rafael won first prize at the Tropicana Open World Salsa Championship, and successfully defended his title in October 2002.
